Since 1986, when we opened our doors in the middle of the growing Arts District in Downtown New Orleans, the Louisiana Children’s Museum has made Arts & Culture foundational elements of its mission and daily programming. Forty years later, in the heart of City Park, LCM continues to honor that mission and everyday practice. Whether we are exploring a wide range of artistic mediums together, celebrating the yearly cycle of Heritage Months and seasonal traditions, or exploring the Family Folklife in our own community, we engage children and caretakers to co-create in lively ways, through the lens of their own expressions and experiences.
Inspired by the child-centered Reggio Emilia Approach to early childhood education, we honor the “Hundred Languages” of expression that every child naturally has, and we are dedicated to making that learning process visible. We see creativity, play, exploration, and research as synonyms, where we learn about ourselves, each other, and the world around us. What interesting things will we discover while creating together?
LCM believes that Artists and Children see the world in similar ways of wonder, so we proudly work with local Artists, Culture Bearers, and Community Partners to make diverse creative opportunities and expressions come to life. We can’t tell the cultural story of New Orleans without collaboration, and for that reason we are delighted to join this incredible group of organizations at Culture Collision 2026!
