Southern Rep Theatre

Southern Rep Theatre, one of the region’s leading non-profit theatres, is nationally recognized for our commitment to new play development. From home-grown plays by Louisiana writers to regional premieres of the best new Off-Broadway & Broadway shows, we tell stories that resonate, engage, and inspire. Our programs range from mainstage plays to arts education for all ages. We offer professional development programs for local theatre artists, a new community engagement initiative – and New Orleans’ only live, ongoing soap opera (seriously).

Southern Rep is back for another season in its new permanent home located at 2541 Bayou Road (in the former St. Rose de Lima Church).  2019-20 Mainstage Season, its 33rd, will feature Regional Premieres of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY by Tracy Letts, NATIVE GARDENS by Karen Zacarías, and Bertolt Brecht’s MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN, translated by Ntozake Shange. In addition, back by popular demand and updated for the holiday season will be MANDATORY MERRIMENT: A NEW ORLEANS HOLIDAY MUSICAL created by Leslie Castay and Ian Hoch. The season will also feature the NNPN (National New Play Network) Rolling World Premiere of REYKJAVIK by Steve Yockey (in partnership with the Saints & Sinners Literary Festival), and the home-grown World Premiere of CHEMIN DU BAYOU by local New Orleans playwright Pamela Davis-Noland.
