Keeping the Classical Tradition Alive in New Orleans – One Young Artist at a Time

Imagine this: A quiet stage. Then, the first notes of a Bach Invention begin to fill the room — performed with perfect clarity by Giselle, a 9th grader from New Orleans. Moments later, she transitions seamlessly into a Mozart Fantasie. You wouldn’t believe she’s only 14.

Or picture this: a classical ballet duet performed by 7th graders, Cecilia and Tucker, dancing the roles of Swanilda and Franz from Coppélia — grace, emotion, and years of training in every step.

This is what you experience at a Junior Philharmonic Society of New Orleans concert — raw, young talent performing classical works in a professional setting, free and open to the public.

Since 1948, the Junior Philharmonic Society has upheld the rich tradition of mentorship — where artistry is passed down from teacher to student, one generation inspiring the next.

Each year, we invite young artists ages 12 to 25 to audition and perform in our Spring concert series — helping them grow as musicians, dancers, and citizens. These students are the real deal!

Whether you’re a student who sings, plays, or dances to classical music, or a parent who believes in the power of the arts — come visit us at Culture Collision.
